ONE OR TWO HEARING AIDS?

Our philosophy is, you wouldn’t buy one glove. If you experience hearing loss in both ears- you need two hearing aids. Why?

Not only can your balance be affected by only treating one ear, but it can also be a major risk! Many hazards (such as traffic and fire) require you to hear with both ears and know where sounds are coming from.

Having only one ear treated also poses another risk- for the untreated ear to become progressively worse due to auditory deprivation.

How Do I Choose a Hearing Aid?

Knowing which hearing aid is right for you depends on the type and severity of your hearing loss, as well as which environments you frequent and your activity levels.

HEARING EVALUATIONS

Hearing aids use small microphones to collect sounds. A computer chip then converts the incoming sound, analyzes it and adjusts the sound based on your hearing loss. Then you hear the audio signals through miniature speakers in your ears.

During your hearing evaluation, we will determine which type of hearing problem you have. We will perform painless tests on your ears and ask you a variety of questions. Based on the results, our experienced experts may recommend seeing a medical doctor for a solution or recommend hearing aids.

Due to the very high number of hearing aids to choose from, our experts will guide you using your evaluation, to the best choices for you. You will be able to make the final decision yourself- a decision that is often an empowering choice after feeling helpless with hearing loss.

HEARING AID FITTING

After you have chosen your hearing aids we will program them specifically for your hearing needs at your fitting. We will also give you a full tutorial on how to use them, such as putting them in and taking them out, changing the batteries (if necessary) and cleaning them

DIGITAL HEARING AIDS: 21ST CENTURY SOLUTION

We recommend full-featured, advanced digital hearing aids so you can get the most out of life. Digital hearing aids will help across many environments, not just your home environment. Basic hearing aids will not be able to assist in a variety of places you may go to, such as restaurants and movie theaters.

Questions About Prices?

One of the number one concerns we hear when it comes to hearing aids is cost. How much you want to spend will depend on a number of factors.

The extent of your hearing loss and the environments you spend the most time in, as well as your lifestyle, will affect this decision. This is because if you spend the most time at home, rarely speaking on the phone and not watching TV or listening to music, you may want to opt for a more basic model. However, if you’re a busy bee who’s going to and from work, traveling, and doing a variety of activities during the day- it would greatly benefit your life to choose a higher-performing type of hearing aid.

Like any other product, from refrigerators to smartphones, the cost of hearing aids will totally depend on its features and functions. The more advanced performance you would like, the higher the cost.

As an example, features like almost-invisible hearing aids that are appropriate across a wide variety of environments and dual microphones for active lifestyles will cause the price to increase.

All of the hearing aids we sell do come with an adjustment or trial period, 30 days from date of purchase. During this period, you’re welcome to visit us for any necessary fitting issues. If for any reason you are not satisfied, you can return them for a refund (minus a small fitting/restocking fee).

There are some exceptions, but generally, hearing aids are unfortunately not covered by health insurance companies.

Some eligible children and young adults ages 21 and under may be covered by Medicaid. Likely they will pay for the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss, including hearing aids, under the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) service. Also, children may be covered by their state’s early intervention program or State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

Medicare does not cover hearing aids for adults; however, diagnostic evaluations are covered if they are ordered by a physician to assist in developing a treatment plan. Since Medicare has declared the bone anchored hearing aid (BAHA) a prosthetic device and not a hearing aid, Medicare will cover the BAHA if other coverage policies are met.

Some nonprofit organizations provide financial assistance for hearing aids, while others may help provide used or refurbished aids.

For many people, the ability to hear is priceless. If you look at how many situations in a day hearing aids would benefit you- our guess is that the list is pretty long and it would benefit your life immensely. The value of improving your life is far greater than the monetary cost.

As well, when you think of not getting hearing aids and the negative side effects associated with that such as depression and social isolation, the cost is much more severe than monetary costs as well.
